In the latest edition of ‘The Scholarly Kitchen’, Erika Pastrana and Simon Adar contemplate the barriers that appear to remain to authors in opting for open access publication. They highlight research that shows a disparity in authors’ awareness, behavior and action in the drive towards adopting open science publication practices, such as sharing preprints, pre-registration, and sharing data and code.
Erika and Simon offer insights and possible solutions to facilitate open research and close the gap between authors’ willingness to adopt open research practices and publishers’ capabilities, such as the implementation of workflows and platforms that efficiently wrangle code and data sharing.
